An unnamed planet was visited by Louis Wu during his fourth sabbatical in 2830. The planet orbits a G3 star somewhat smaller and redder than Sol at a distance of about 80 million miles and located almost 40 light years from Earth.[1]
The planet is described as trifle cold for human taste, almost the same size as Earth and covered in white clouds and blue oceans with large polar caps. The air appears breathable and it has a gravity similar to Earth's. It appears to have no advanced civilization.[1]
Although, at first the planet appeared to have no moon it was later shown that a sphere that was initially thought to be a slaver box was in fact a piece of neutronium orbiting around the planet. This created extremely powerful tides on the surface.[1]
The trinoc encountered by Louis Wu speculates that the neutronium sphere is in fact a defense weapon meant to bait and destroy ships that enter the system as passing ships would think it a slaver box and be destroyed as they got too close.[1]
While Louis Wu rejects this hypothesis as the systems appears uninhabited, the trinoc is correct, as the neutronium sphere is just one of several "baits" left by the puppeteers early in their migration from known space designed to neutralize ships that might accidentally glimpse the Fleet from nearby habitable systems.[2]
