Gummidgy is the sole planet orbiting CY Aquarii. A world just recently settled by Humans, Gummidgy looks like Earth from space, with white clouds and blue oceans and a tiny moon orbiting around it but unlike Earth, Gummidgy is shows no signs of extensive civilization, no glowing cities on its dark side or the remains of highway systems on the morning side.[1]
Gummidgy has an 18-hour day. Sunsets on Gummidgy feature the colors blue, green and orange.[1]
At one point in its history Gummidgy was hit by a big stellar object that created a large circular ocean covering a third of the planet, the ocean is now called Cirle Sea. Gummidgy also has at least one mountain range.[1]
Gummidgy's high powered white sun gives off a wealth of ultraviolet light that has given rise to extensive and varied plant, animal and fungal life with a chemistry different from Earth's. Plants on Gummidgy use a similar compound to chlorophyll but unlike their Flatlander counterparts theirs doesn't come only in green, instead plants range from green, to magenta, to yellow, to scarlet, to blue and combinations in between.[1]
Among the native animals of Gummidgy there are herd herbivores that feed on fern grass, hopping carnivores that feed on the former, an animal similar to a white greyhound, monkey-like beings, something like a flying snake with wings, and a variety of insect-forms and bird-forms, including some as large as storks.[1]
Gummidgy also has several life forms that look like plants but have animal-like traits such as the famous Orchid-Thing. It is unknown if these are just extremely developed carnivore plants or something in between the realm of plants and animals exclusive to Gummidgy.[1]
Gummidgy had a population of 500,000 people in 2648[2], four years after being colonized. Human settlers and visitors to Gummidgy have to use special goggles blocking CY Aquarii's light when stepping out outside of the Base's (Gummidgy's main settlement) dome, as well as take tannin pills to darken their skin so as to be able to withstand the extra ultraviolet light.[1]
Radios don't work on Gummidgy. If one wishes to communicate it is necessary to use a com-laser. There are space stations around Gummidgy that relay these laser beams around the planet.[1]
